HOSTED AT EXCELSIA COLLEGE

Have access to world class recording and training facilities within Excelsia College’s Macquarie Park campus. Includes a fully equipped computer lab and multiple acoustically treated recording booths.

PROGRAM OUTLINE

Our programs run from 9am to 3pm, and features an array of practical hands-on sessions. All days include a 20 minute morning tea and 60 minute lunch break between each session, where food and drink will be provided.

DAY 1 | INTRO AND BASICS

Content Summary:

  • Introducing the team and program

  • Getting to know each other

  • Fundamentals of Digital Music Making

  • Navigating and using music software

  • Using physical equipment and instruments

  • Dive into our first session where students connect and embark on an immersive journey. They'll be guided through a dynamic presentation unveiling the program's roadmap.

  • Discover the fundamentals of navigating a digital audio workstation (DAW) on day one. From mastering the basics like opening the DAW to effortlessly manipulating volume, panning, and arranging tracks, students will grasp essential skills.

  • Finish the day with a guided hands-on lab session. Students team up to apply newfound knowledge, creating original music pieces using the techniques learned earlier.

DAY 2 | MIDI AND PROGRAMMING

  • Programming drums

  • Writing melodies and songs

  • Chords and harmony

  • Recording audio and voice

  • Genres and styles

  • An interactive and practical session on drum programming, MIDI techniques, melody structure, and the art of recording. Get ready to explore the essentials of music production.

  • Building on the insights from our earlier sessions, dive into a hands-on lab session where you'll create your own musical compositions and song ideas. Write and plan the recording of your song idea.

  • Finish the day with a guided hands-on lab session. Students team up to apply newfound knowledge, creating original music pieces using the techniques learned earlier.

    NOTE: Students enrolled in the two program will receive their final project at this stage WITHOUT a vocal recording.

DAY 3 | RECORDING AND EDITING

PLEASE NOTE THAT ONLY STUDENTS WHO ARE ENROLLED

  • Finishing student projects

  • Vocal recording and mixing

  • Learning to edit audio

  • Learning fundamental effects and sound design

  • Producing a release ready final product

  • Bring your song to life in the vocal recording booths where song ideas become real tangible products. All students will receive the opportunity to experience being the vocal artist, as well as the equipment operator.

  • Learn to edit your audio recordings to carry a polished, release-ready sound. Get feedback from the instructors and make final adjustments before sharing your work to the group.

  • Students will end the program by sharing their finished songs and projects with the group, and celebrate their achievements. All students will receive a USB stick and google drive link with a copy of their project to take home and share with their families.
